Reflections

Another meeting of Melbourne Urban Sketchers group. This time next to Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Watercolour sketch of Polly Woodside ship

Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolour sketch of Polly Woodside ship in Moleskine watercolour sketchbook (Landscape 21×13 cm)

While drawing Polly Woodside, a three-masted ship, I kept on thinking back to another three-masted ship that I saw often and yet never attempted to sketch – Cutty Sark, preserved in Greenwich, London. Reflections. What was done and not done. What could’ve been and what will be. No regrets, but lots of comparing and reflecting. One day I’ll go back to walk the Thames path and to sketch along it.
The life in Australia is now the norm, the routing and yet at times I still have the dreamlike feeling of unreality. The strangeness of myself being back in the familiar surroundings. I changed, Melbourne changed and yet, here we are again, together. Things slightly off, slightly different, at times completely throwing me off balance. Alice through the looking-glass.

“Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!”
Lewis Carrol.
